Hi this is Tina Colizza for Living Well. One of the most chronic conditions among us is stress. We all know that Exercising, getting enough sleep, relaxation and eating well are key to managing stress. But did you know that Positive thinking helps with stress management and can even improve your health. MAYO Clinic studies show that positive thinking reduces stress and its harmful effects.
First we need to understand that Excessive and prolonged stress breaks down our body's defense mechanism making it vulnerable to disease and illness.
During chronic or prolonged stress our immune system is not functioning fully. Our body is then vulnerable to infections, diseases, and allergies.
You might have noticed that, when you suffer from chronic or prolonged amounts of stress, you are more likely to catch a cold or the flu.
Chronic stress results into a dysfunctional immune system, which can lead to diseases such as cancer and heart disease.
So Is your glass half-empty or half-full? How you answer this age-old question about positive thinking may reflect your outlook on life, your attitude toward yourself, and whether you're optimistic or pessimistic.
In fact, some studies show that these personality traits — optimism and pessimism — can affect many areas of your health and well-being. Positive thinking doesn't mean that you keep your head in the sand and ignore life's less pleasant situations. It just means that you approach the unpleasantness in a more positive and productive way.
With all this in mind, take a refresher course in positive thinking. Learn how to put positive thinking into action in your own life, and reap the benefits.
Why not…Start each morning with a smile on your face. Keep wearing that smile as you go about your work, and you’ll make that day an optimistic one. Treat each person that you meet like a VIP. Find joy in your job. Take a task and make it fun. Be the cheerleader of your work team. Count your blessings – in a waiting room, in your journal, or in your car while you are stuck in traffic.
Take a vacation. You don’t have to travel to an exotic island. Just go to a quiet room where you can relax with your peaceful thoughts. Breathe in all the peace and feel the calmness quieting your mind and refreshing your spirits.
Be proud of who you are. Walk tall. Let all your actions reflect the good person that you are. Let the words you speak honor all your beauty and wonder. Begin each day in the light of love from all whose lives you touch so beautifully.
Have a great week and remember: A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity and an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty. |
